Annie Olson, watercolors

Watercolors capture my creative spirit and send it flying.  From past sailing experiences (where water is plentiful), to Alaska (where light is alluring), to Japan (where design is exquisite), the media calls to me.  It has a sensitivity that allows a viewer to see through many layers of paint, just as one sees through many layers of feelings or emotions into the essence.  There is also freeness with the paint that is almost uncontrollable, but not quite.  It feels so FRESH and ALIVE!

My formal education includes a BA in Art from University of Alaska Anchorage and private training from Pat Fridley.

Personal influences include teaching adults and children to paint, co-directing Girdwood Fine Arts Camp with Tom O’Malley, and wandering through the gardens of my friends, both in America and foreign countries.

Shows include Java Haus, D Street Café, Girdwood Fine Art Center, UAA Gallery,  Kaladi Bros. Coffee House, Carr Gottstein Gallery, Toast Gallery, Grant Hall, Callanetics Studio..

Awards include Best of Show with UAA juror Vern Stanford; Honorable Mention with No Big Heads’ juror Elenor Dickinson; First Place Drawing with UAA juror Dave Nichols.

This is my first venture into cyberspace and I’m finding it exhilarating.

Many thanks I give to all the people who have encouraged me to paint starting with my husband, and family.
