Flight 93

- September 11, 2001

Sometimes love rushes
through the air,
racing like a madman,
crackling on the back
of electrons,
or riding a desperate wind
all the way back home.
The phone rings,
the last call
is like a whisper,
a hand caressing
your hand,
a kiss,
and all you can do
is listen
to the sudden night,
the silence,
the sound of sky
falling everywhere at once.

John Valentine

I teach philosophy courses at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
My poetry publications include The Sewanee Review, The Southern Poetry Review,
The Midwest Quarterly, The Adirondack Review, and others. I have had a chapbook
published with Pudding House Press.

I went on all over the States, ranting poems to enthusiastic audiences that, the week before, had been equally enthusiastic about lectures on Railway Development or the Modern Turkish Essay.”
